1. The layout given to the right is an improved layout for Aero Maintenance. See Solved Problem 9.1 (p372). Manually determine the material handling cost (in feet) for this layout.
For each load, indicate in tabular form:
            Load,
            From department to department,
            From area to area,
            Cost (distance),
            Load * cost.
Then total all of the (load * cost) terms to determine the overall material handling cost.

2. Manually solve Problems 9.15 (p380) and 9.20 using the largest possible time heuristic as discussed in class.  Perform the optimality test by computing m and explaining if the heuristic solution is optimal.  Do not compute the efficiency or idle time.

3. Solve Problem 8.5 (p337) manually using the procedure as discussed in class. Be sure to compare qualitatively each site with the best candidate using the least number of positive factors to outweigh all negative factors.

4. Set up the transportation LP model for Problem C.8 (p749) manually. Do not solve. As discussed in class, give the transportation cost table, define the decision variables Xi j, objective function, and constraints. Be sure to define i and j. Please note that this problem refers back to Solved Problem C.1 on page 745.  The LP model must be hand-written.

5. After discussed in class, right click here and use the Save Target As option to download my Excel worksheet, H9C08e.xls.  Save it on your H: drive here at SJU or on your hard drive at home.  Use it to solve Problem C.8.  Write the answer to the problem’s questions on the printout.

6. For the Ch 6Supp, 7, or 9 CPAI, modify the ClassPartAICh6S7or9.doc file.  Click here for details.

7. Submit your Job Opportunity Summary and printout of the job opportunity from Career Exercise 2.  Click here for details.

Requirements:
Individual Items: Be prepared to present your solution any class after the homework Item is assigned. For computerized problems, bring solution printout and flash drive to demo solution on the PC to the class.  Same Requirements as HW I.  Click for details.

Entire Homework Set: This problem set is to be complete and professional looking. As a result, your solutions must show all work, not just the answer. An additional cover or binding is not required, but the problem set is to be stapled (not paper clipped) together as one unit in sequential order. If not, penalty is 10%. No photocopies. Each student is to submit their own work.  An additional 20% may be deducted for sloppiness and/or poor English.

Do not submit any of the cover pages from the micro lab printers. The penalty is 10% for each cover page submitted. (Save the trees.)  Late submission penalty is 20% for each class late. Submission after the final exam receives zero credit. A sample of the problems will be used for grading. Submit in class. Do not leave in my mailbox, because it is not secure.
