Class Discussion Action Item

Case Situation: You will attend a business meeting (our class) in a few days. As an action item for the meeting, you must give a short report about how you could apply one of the items on the meeting's agenda (my chapter outline) to a realistic work situation that you may have within the next three years. Select only items preceded with an asterisk (*). The facilitator of the meeting (me, Prof. Lyons) has requested that you submit a brief description of your action item before the meeting. As a result, the facilitator will review all the items before the meeting and the meeting will proceed more efficiently.

To prepare for the discussion, right click this link and use the SaveTargetAs option to download the Word document, cdis.doc (19KB).  Save this file on your H: drive here at SJU or on your hard drive at home.  Then modify the file for your action item. The above file discusses the application of control charts to income tax preparation. To foster your creativity, the application of control charts to income tax preparation will not be permitted.

Use this form to submit your Class Discussion Action Item (CDAI) abstract by 8:00 AM of the day of class. If you have problems with this form, submit a written explanation on my desk before class starts, along with your action item description.

Please enter your name. For your first name, you may enter a nickname, if you prefer to be called by that name in class  (such as Bob for Robert). Leave the first name blank if you prefer to be called by your last name (such as Ms. Smith).

First name (max 15 characters)
Last name (max 25 characters)

Please enter the reference information from my outline for your topic. For the topic name, enter the first 25 characters of the corresponding outline item. For example, in Chapter 14, the topic name for item II.B.3 is Benchmarking.

Chapter number    (integer from 1 to 17)

  Outline number     (such as II.B.3)

  Topic name          (max 25 characters)

Paste the abstract from your modified copy of cdis.doc into the field below. (max 300 characters including spaces).  Please note that you must copy and paste.  Cut and paste does not work.

On the scheduled day for your topic, place a copy of your action item on my desk before class starts. During class, when we discuss your chosen topic, I will ask you to come to the front of the room, and sit in a desk next to mine. We will then have a short (2-3 minute) informal role play about how you will apply the topic in a realistic work situation. Constructive comments from the class are encouraged.  No credit will be given for a CDAI submitted after the chapter has been discussed.           (This page was last edited on January 17, 2005 .)
